The Learning Technology Center is hosting a statewide competition called the IL AI Challenge. This competition encourages students in grades 6–12 across Illinois to use artificial intelligence (AI) to solve real problems in their communities.
The IL AI Empower Challenge is designed to intentionally align with the requirements, timelines, and judging criteria in the recently announced Presidential AI Challenge to allow groups that participate in the IL AI Empower Challenge project to also submit their project to the national competition. While aligned to the national Presidential AI Challenge, The Learning Technology Center is not officially affiliated with the Presidential AI Challenge, and winning the Illinois competition does NOT guarantee or count as winning the State level for the Presidential AI Challenge.
The main goals of the IL Empower Challenge are to:
Amplify student voices
Develop durable skills like problem-solving and critical thinking
Increase student fluency and confidence in using AI
Showcase Illinois's leadership in the safe and responsible use of AI
Through this project-based approach, students will gain valuable experience and competencies that will help them succeed in the future and make a positive impact on the world.
